As far as I know, Goggins cried publicly only once. At the VFW(Veterans of Foreign Wars) award. He talked about it in the book"Never Finished". He was holding his speech, about to thank his mother and the image of her mother getting abused went through his mind and he teared up and needed a minute to be able to go on with his speech. Reading about it and also seeing a video on UA-cam made me respect David even more than I did before. He is a human, just like us, and it's sometimes easy to categorize these people as "different". They're not different. We are all capable on doing this. You just need a lot of discipline and desire to toughen up your mind.

I'm almost 100% positive David would not tell you not to cry. Avoiding your emotions or stuffing them down is still avoidance. It took me 20 years to learn that. I struggeled wirh addiction. Never knowing how to process and live in negative emotions. You've got to stew in them despite the discomfort they bring. That doesn't mean cry when you break a nail, but when you lose a person you love. Feel it. Cry if that's what comes. Avoiding your emotions will never toughen you up, it will never lead to good. It's avoidance.
